About this exam
The Meghalaya Civil Service (MCS) examination, conducted by the Meghalaya Public Service Commission, is the state's flagship recruitment route into the Meghalaya Civil Service — the most prestigious administrative cadre — and the allied Meghalaya Police Service (MPS), whose entry-level officers serve as Deputy Superintendents of Police. The current cycle was advertised under Advt. No. 18/2025, inviting applications for 36 MCS vacancies with a submission deadline of 10 November 2025. Selection runs through three stages per the Commission's official MCS Recruitment Rules: a qualifying Preliminary Examination (two 200-mark objective papers — General Studies and CSAT), a descriptive Main Examination (seven conventional essay-type papers, one of which is qualifying), and an Interview/Personality Test worth 150 marks. Roughly 80% of posts are reserved for Scheduled Tribes under Meghalaya's Sixth Schedule character, split across Khasi & Jaintia and Garo communities, and the Main Examination's optional-subject list distinctively includes Khasi and Garo literature alongside mainstream subjects. Posts carry the Level-15 pay band under Meghalaya's Revised Pay Structure, the top tier of the state's 1–15 pay-level scale.
