The UPSC Central Armed Police Forces (Assistant Commandants) Examination 2026 is one of the most prestigious Group A central government exams, conducted annually by the Union Public Service Commission to recruit Assistant Commandants for five Central Armed Police Forces: Border Security Force (BSF), Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP), and Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB). The 2026 cycle advertises 506 vacancies. Candidates must hold a Bachelor's degree (any discipline) from a recognised University and be between 20–25 years of age (age relaxation of 5 years for SC/ST, 3 years for OBC, and 8 years for ex-servicemen). The selection process is in three stages: (1) Written Examination — Paper I (General Ability & Intelligence, 250 marks, 2 hours) and Paper II (General Studies, Essay & Comprehension, 200 marks, 3 hours); (2) Physical Standards Test / Physical Efficiency Test (PET/PST) — qualifying; (3) Medical Examination — qualifying. Candidates shortlisted after the written exam are called for the Interview/Personality Test (150 marks) conducted by a UPSC board. Final merit is based on Written + Interview marks (total 600 marks). NE India candidates with the mandatory Class 12 NE Board or University degrees are fully eligible; age relaxation norms for ST/SC communities in NE further improve the competitive profile. The posts are Pay Matrix Level 10, one of the highest entry-level gazetted officer scales in paramilitary services.
