About this exam
The National Defence Academy & Naval Academy (NDA & NA) Examination is conducted twice a year by UPSC (NDA I around April, NDA II around September) to select candidates straight out of school for officer training in the Army, Navy, and Air Force. It is the youngest entry point among UPSC's defence exams — open to unmarried male and female candidates aged 16.5 to 19.5 who have passed or are appearing in Class 12 (Physics and Mathematics required for Navy/Air Force wings). Selection has two stages: a written examination (objective, two papers — Mathematics and General Ability Test) and the SSB Interview (5 days, same structure as CDS). Successful candidates join the NDA at Khadakwasla for a 3-year joint training programme before branching into their respective service academies.
